Location:-
Frothing masses of water tumbling over ancient, richly coloured rocks create a fine mist behind which a delicate rainbow shimmers. The rumbling of the river breaks the humbling silence of this vast land which has remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years. Baobabs perched precariously on the steep rocks personify the tenacity it takes to survive in this remarkable and remote land.
These are the Epupa Falls on the banks of the Kunene River, just several hundred metres from the luxurious Epupa Falls Lodge in north-western Namibia. In dramatic contrast to the stark and arid beauty of remote Kaokoland, the tall trees and lush riverine vegetation provide cool shade and within their branches keen birdwatchers might recognise Monteiros Hornbill, the Rufoustailed Palmthrush or a host of other birds endemic to the area.
Nine luxury safari style tents ensure that you will experience this land of contrasts and rugged beauty in perfect comfort and our intimate, personalised service will allow you to unwind and absorb your surroundings.
The river facing dining area is perfect for enjoying our outstanding meals while enjoying magnificent views of the water, and perhaps a glimpse of crocodiles, turtles or water monitor lizards, while the unmistakeable call of the African Fish eagle completes this blissful stimulation of the senses.
A swaying suspension bridge connects the lodge to our own private island where you can relax in a lounger or hammock. Come evening, enjoy an absolutely secluded candle lit dinner on the beach.
During the day visit a Himba village and learn about these fascinating people who remain virtually untouched by modern life, or set your adrenalin racing rafting on the river. The beauty of the falls compels you to sit and appreciate a spectacular sunset while sipping a sundowner, and at night, stare up into one of the clearest skies in the world and marvel at a breathtaking array of stars in the velvet sky.
This vast and ancient landscape fills you with a sense of primeval belonging, as the soft sound of rushing water nourishes your soul.
